APUR SANSAR

SYNOPSIS: The final chapter of Ray’s Apu Trilogy finds its hero (Soumitra Chatterjee, in a star-making debut) grown into a penniless, drifting aspiring novelist in Calcutta, until an impulsive marriage to the luminous Aparna (Sharmila Tagore) upends his solitary existence. What follows is one of cinema’s most tender portraits of marriage, sudden loss, and reluctant fatherhood, as Apu must learn to forgive both the world and himself. Ray closes his masterpiece not with tragedy alone, but with quiet, hard-won grace.
