The Asian Film Festival of Dallas was deeply saddened by the passing of David Gibson late last week. When someone as special as David leaves there's a huge hole left behind, like the bottom dropping out of the world. He was everyone's favorite, including ours and he was the best of us. For a decade, from 2009 to 2019, David was a key member of our film festival. He started as the Membership Director and then served as the festival’s Programming Director for six years, while also serving as the Director of Operations during this time.

While he was with AFFD, he was the perpetually positive core of our team. He didn’t simply share a love and appreciation of Asian film with our board, members, and film fans, but he also brought such a welcoming friendly spirit to everything. He became the truest ambassador for AFFD. We missed him when he left the organization in 2019 due to greater work and church responsibilities, and now we are devastated that our dear friend is gone.

We know there are many stories that our board members present and past, members, filmmakers and guests might have about David. During his time with us, David brought smiles and joy to so many people at our festival. We want to give those moments of joy a place to live for as long as we're around. Please join all of us at AFFD who loved David in sharing your stories with us. We want to read about any story you might have to tell about David. Sit for a second and dig up your best David Gibson tales, maybe sift through those digital photo albums and come on over and share. We can all use a great big David smile right about now. Please share your stories and AFFD photos here.

Goodbye David. Thank you for the time you gave us, and we all love you so much.
