SYNOPSIS: Over the course of a single year in Taipei, bookended by a wedding and a funeral, the Jian family navigates the quiet crises of everyday life. Middle-aged father NJ reconnects with a lost first love, his teenage daughter Ting-Ting stumbles through her first romance, and his young son Yang-Yang, armed with a camera, sets out to photograph the backs of people’s heads, showing them what they cannot see for themselves. Edward Yang’s sprawling, tender epic captures the joys, disappointments, and quiet revelations of three generations living under one roof.
