THE MAHJONG BOX

Tom, an American expatriate in Shanghai, navigates grief following a profound loss. After discovering a mahjong box made by his deceased wife's father, Tom meets the woman's mother and gradually learns about his relationship with Ling through flashbacks. When Ling's health deteriorates, Tom spirals into denial and becomes obsessed with Bobo, a woman who bears a striking resemblance to his lost love, building toward an emotionally charged climax during a mahjong game where he finally confronts his suppressed emotions.
