A sequel following Naito, a man aspiring to become a shogun, who must complete a ritual while planning to marry Osaki. After overhearing doubts about their relationship and learning of an uprising in his village, Naito and his companions undertake a grueling non-stop journey home — where they discover that Matsudaira, the antagonist from the first film, has seized control of the castle. The story interweaves the couple's cross-class romance with the political conflict threatening their homeland.
